102nd Annual Convention Wrap Up

"Facing the Future Together" - 102nd Annual ConventionThe 102nd Annual CT PTA convention was a huge success! Attendees were treated to workshops, exhibitor booths, keynote speakers and many networking opportunities.

The convention was honored to have Shirley Igo, National PTA President in attendance. CT PTA was also pleased to have two special sponsors, IDEAS: Inventive Designs for Education & The Arts, Dr. Sue Snyder and Allison Abucewicz, and Genevieve’s Fundraising, Dan McLaughlin.

On Thursday evening, the “Reach for the Stars!” Reflections Awards Banquet kicked off the convention with 300+ students, family members and PTA members in attendance. Sixty-three student winners were awarded ribbons and certificates for their winning entries in Literature, Musical Composition, Photography and Visual Arts. Jion Kim from Spring Glen School PTA, Hamden, CT was also a National PTA Award Recipient. Congratulations Jion!

Friday morning brought numerous workshop choices and General Session I, highlighted by the Presentation of Colors by the Wilby High School ROTC, the Pledge of Allegiance by students from the Elizabeth Ives School and the National Anthem, sung by Kristen Klemeshefsky, John F. Kennedy High School, Waterbury. Anthony Wolf, child psychologist and author of numerous child-raising books was the luncheon speaker. Dr. Wolf shared his ideas and advice on raising children, receiving many laughs as everyone “ identified” with each situation.

The “Spirit of PTA” Gala was an event held to recognize those volunteers who in their communities promote and encourage the essence of PTA… "every child. one voice." Keith Alan Productions "got the party started" with dance music and fun and games for all! Overall, the event was a night to remember.

On Saturday, more workshops and General Session II kept everyone busy. Installation of Region Directors and the presentation of Membership Awards were completed with the help of Shirley Igo, National PTA President. Congressman Jim Maloney was a surprise guest as the convention culminated with a working brunch.

Don’t miss out on this wonderful opportunity to move your PTA forward in this ever-changing world.

The CT PTA Convention is a time for those volunteers who truly support the "every child. one voice" philosophy to gain knowledge and explore new ideas.

Those who attended were pleased with the various workshop selections and shared information through networking opportunities.

Join the CT PTA next year at the 103rd Annual Convention, as we celebrate our very own Linda Hodge, National PTA President, 2003-2004. It is with much thanks and utmost respect that the CT PTA recognizes it’s many volunteers who made this 102nd Convention a success! Without you, it wouldn’t be possible!
