Tips on communicating with elected officials:

bullet

Elected officials are most sensitive to their own constituents. Please consider becoming a member of the Connecticut Parent Teacher Association’s member-to-member network. Contact the CT PTA VP Legislation.

bullet

Understand the PTA position - please do not speak against a position as an identified member of PTA. If your personal position differs from PTA please do not speak on behalf of PTA. For more information on PTA positions click here or contact the CT PTA VP Legislation.

bullet

Write legislators individually, avoid sending form letters.

bullet

Write notes of appreciation and support. Elected representative often hear from people who oppose a bill but not from people in support of a bill.

bullet

Be brief and to the point.

bullet

The proper salutation for a State Senator or State Representative is “The Honorable…”
