Land of the Free!CT PTA President's Letter
November, 2001

I still find it difficult to wrap my thoughts and feelings around the horrific act of terrorism that New York City, the United States and the world experienced last month.

Whether we personally know individuals injured, or even killed by this terrorist act, we all have and will continue to share the pain of the events of last month. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who were injured or died as a result of this tragedy.

As we discuss this tragedy and it ’s impact on human lives with our children, we can only hope that we, as well as future generations, will never have to witness a tragedy of this magnitude ever again.

Although we may sometimes find it difficult, it is important for all of us to resume our everyday schedules. Children especially need a daily routine, structure, affection and reassurance during this period.

Hopefully, many of you are taking advantage of the Leadership Workshops being offered throughout the state this past month. They provide excellent training for new as well as "seasoned" PTA leaders. The CT PTA is there to help you! If you have any questions, please give us a call.

The National PTA "Annual Resources for PTAs 2001-2002" was distributed at the Leadership Workshops. If you haven ’t received your copy, please call the office to arrange for pickup. Have you sent in your insurance payment? It is not too late - the new insurance policies take effect on November 1. Remember, your membership dues must have been submitted to the CT PTA office in order for you to be considered a unit in good standing and to be eligible for insurance. Your membership dues should be submitted with a Unit Treasurer’s Report (UTR) which can be found on the CT PTA website in the members-only area.

The Reflections Program theme for 2001-2002 is "I hold in my hand …" The Reflections rules and regulations were recently mailed to the President as well as to any Reflections chairman whose name was on file in the office. Once again, we are looking forward to seeing the wonderful entries sent in by the children.

In closing, let’s not forget to take care of each other and ourselves as we are attending to our childrens' emotional needs.
